Proper Cocktail Attire

I must say, I rather do enjoy the fact that Miami's "jacket required" scene for restaurants and other businesses is almost non-existent. I love going in to a top dollar restaurant in jeans with heels - "Miami Chic".

That being said, I was rather unimpressed at a cocktail party that I attended a few nights ago in South Beach. The party was for a formal fashion presentation and though it was not a formal affair, it was a COCKTAIL Party. Don't cocktail parties involve chic dresses, sexy heels, nighttime makeup, etc.? Shouldn't the men be dressed in what they would wear to a nightclub like Liv or Karu & Y? There's a time and place for everything and I was rather bored and disappointed with the daytime chic clothing I saw people wearing, the bored and uninspired hair, and the men wearing outfits they shouldn't wear anywhere. I stood out like a sore thumb in my cocktail wear. You would think I was wearing a floor-length haute couture gown!

Living in a place where we are fortunate enough to have warm weather 99% of the time, we are already spared having to dress up all the time. So why not dress up for these cocktail mixers (especially since this one was for the industry)? Isn't dressing up now and then supposed to be a fun thing?
Please share your thoughts on this subject. I'm dying to know what the general opinion is on this from Miami locals...Thanks!

The 1st Ever Miami Beach Gay Pride!

Today was so much fun (and still is for those going on to hear DJ Abel at Score) that I can't even explain it to you. Amazing vibes, amazing energy. Gay Pride Miami Beach was such a success. I am as proud as ever to be a huge supporter and friend in the South Florida gay community. The biggest trend today was wearing stickers showing your support for causes and political ideals and my fave was the Obama Pride sticker. Go Gay Pride!

Boutique Love

Have to show some love for ALCHEMIST boutique on Lincoln Road. Phenomenal fashion. It's New York brought to Miami - if only these types of looks would take hold and annihilate the overdone, tired, rhinestoned Miami/Vegas look. They carry names like Alaia, Chanel, and Takahashi.

Hi All...

Hey, I'm back....been busy working and celebrating my 24th. Since I last wrote I've made a few plans to attend some fashion events, I saw Confessions of a Shopaholic at a preview, and I found out that Sex and the City will be back for Round 2 before we know it (got to keep Patricia busy...). Happy March and you'll hear from me soon.
